Shikaga-gawa River Excavation Project Successfully Concluded.

The Shikaga-gawa River excavation project has also been successfully completed.

The municipal office will also become a new government building this spring, and in line with the town’s efforts to create the “Kyora-no-Sato” village, we also added some creative touches to the river project.

We found simply excavating to be uninspiring. Therefore, to create a more engaging environment, we aimed to make it accessible for birds and fish to gather by the water, and for town residents to come down to the riverbank. We wanted them to be able to leisurely gaze at the water’s surface or play by the water. To achieve this, we created small stone weirs in the river and developed the riverbank.

The power of nature is immense, as we were reminded during the Aso disaster; the force of water can sweep away unimaginable things.

Accumulated sediment and earth can also build up remarkably quickly within just a few years.

While construction work is sometimes equated with environmental destruction, if we shift our perspective and consider environmentally friendly construction that coexists gently with nature, couldn’t we say we are actually working on the front lines of global environmental protection?!

This is what truly struck me while overseeing this project.
